I'm thinking more of a traditional bassinet for the first few couple months. That way I don't need to take the floor space right away.

We'll more then likely keep the playpen folded up until the baby is mobile.

Oh you'll probably want that playpen right away, depending on how your house is laid out. Most of the modern playpens (which the manufacturers euphemistically call "play yards") have a removable bassinet. It's a cushiony little bed that hangs suspended in the top of the playpen, and has built-in bumpers. It's a great place to put the wee one down for a nap instead of hauling all the way back to the crib (especially if your nursery is upstairs, like ours is, and you spend most of your time downstairs in your family room, like we do). Ours also had a built-in changing pad, which we used all the time rather than going upstairs to the changing table (or using the floor or couch or whatever).

Congratulations again. So excited for you guys!
